Congratulations to Marwa Elsaied, Empower Pharmacy’s Director of Medical Affairs who recently became Board Certified as a Medical Affairs Specialist by the Accreditation Council for Medical Affairs.

Since being promoted to director in November 2021, Marwa has worked cross functionally with multiple departments including but not limited to Research & Development, Marketing, Legal and Regulatory Affairs.

She began as a staff pharmacist in May 2019, months later she was promoted to Clinical Pharmacist and then Clinical Operations Manager in June 2020. While assisting in the call center, she proposed the development of a medical affairs team. The department was created in the first quarter of 2021, making Empower one of the only compounders with a medical affairs team.

Born in Egypt, Marwa grew up in the Tri-State Area surrounding New York and New Jersey since the age of four. She moved to Houston a few years after earning a Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of the Sciences – Philadelphia College of Pharmacy in 2016.

She has presented her original research at the 2014 American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Midyear Clinical Meeting titled Assessment of cultural sensitivities of direct-to-consumer pharmaceutical advertisements (DTCPA) , co-authored Ferric citrate (Auryxia®) for kidney disease: managing hyperphosphatemia in hemodialysis. Advance for Nurses. 2015;1(10):50., and lead a project that created an Arabic-language public service announcement, on atorvastatin, that displayed on WHYY Studios public website (Philadelphia, PA). Recently, Marwa presented during the June 8th, 2022, FDA Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee (PCAC) meeting on the inclusion of Enclomiphene.

Working for a technologically advanced pharmacy operation like Empower’s 503A compounding pharmacy and 503B outsourcing facility, Marwa enjoys breaking down stigmas of compounding, stating “Empower puts the safety of our patients and quality of our medication at the forefront; service is our passion, but safety is our priority. Giving providers a tour of our state-of-the-art facilities and walking them through our advanced automatic machinery shows our intentions through actions.”
